MUSIC MADE MAN – Full-length feature screenplay (biopic/drama)
Logline/Synopsis
A biopic of the life of legendary gypsy jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt.
From humble beginnings growing up in a gypsy shantytown, Django makes a name for himself playing quintessential French musette in the louche nightclubs of 1930s Paris.
One fateful night, he meets a famous English jazz impresario, who promises Django his dream of touring America. Hours later, Django is catastrophically injured in a caravan fire. He is told he will never play guitar again.
Thanks to his family and his own Herculean efforts, Django re-learns how to play guitar, forfeiting the classic box structure and developing his own unique, now famous, two-finger guitar-playing style.
Along with violinist Stephane Grappelli, Django forms the Quintet du Hot Club de France. They tour Europe and enjoy huge success as a truly innovative and inspirational jazz ensemble.
And then the Nazis invade.
This is the vibrant true story of an amazing musical genius.
